STATE HOUSE LEADERSHIP PLANS TO OVERRIDE VETO!
Although Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker vetoed the Work and Family Mobility Act on May 27, House and Senate leadership has promised a swift vote to override the governor’s veto. If successful, the override would autmatically pass the bill into law.
House Majority Leader Ron Mariano has said the chamber would vote to override by June 8, 2022. Senate President Karen Spilka has promised an override vote soon after.
Support for the bill in the State House has been very strong. On February 17, a large majority of State Representatives voted in favor of the House version of the bill. On May 5, a large majority of State Senators approved the Senate version.
The “supermajority” support in both chambers is more than enough to overcome the governor’s veto –
